Enlist in the Marine Corps, go through basic training and do your time. Complete the required course work for your MOS. If you don't get into trouble, you should make corporal in a couple years.

Also in action you commit an act of selfless bravery or help out your division in an extrodinary way in action you should make corpral or higher a couple days after the action if seen by a sergant or any higher rank and they reccamen you for it.

Well, you typically don't become a corporal in the National Guard unless you are in a command position (squad leader, etc.). Some have said that they've seen people laterally appointed to corporal that were in an E5 slot but haven't attended WLC (formerly known as PLDC). I've also seen people laterally appointed to corporal for no apparent reason. I'll withhold further comment on that except to say, some people I have seen hold the rank of corporal that have ABSOLUTELY NO BUSINESS being made a "leader." If you opt to be a recruiter and are an E4, they'll make you a corporal for that also. I think that is really just to make it look better to the potential enlistee though. You shouldn't aspire to be a corporal anyway. To be a good NCO, you need to have been a specialist for a while so you know what is going on and by that time, you should have just attended the promotion board and get E5. I mean, think about about it -- do you really think you could be an effective NCO going from PFC straight to CPL? No? Then just do your (short) time in grade as a SPC and skip corporal. It's not worth it. Just wait and go for the E5.

You don't. You can become a Sergeant, Staff Sergeant, a Gunnery Sergeant, a First Sergeant, Master Sergeant or a Sergeant Major. If your targeted rank is Sergeant First Class then you will have to join the US Army first.

Stay in, don't get into trouble and do a good job. Some courses will help as well. It doesn't take long, probably less than a year.

You start out by earning a commission. That requires a college degree. Then it is a matter of staying in the Marine Corps and earning regular promotions. Full Colonel takes about 20 years.

Can an marine sergeant tell a corporal he cannot counsel marines until he completes a pt session?

Yes, a Marine sergeant has the authority to give instructions and set expectations for the corporal's duties and responsibilities. If completing a PT session is a requirement or prerequisite for counseling marines, the sergeant can enforce that requirement. It is within the sergeant's authority to ensure that the corporal meets the necessary standards before conducting counseling sessions.
