On the clutch slave cylinder
In a 1988 Pontiac Grand Am you will find the clutch slave cylinder located on the flywheel. You will need to remove the hush panel from the driver's side foot well to gain access to the clutch slave cylinder.
You will need to remove the transmission to replace the clutch slave.
Its hydraulic ,you cant, check your slave cylinder to see if its leaking, its located thru a rubber cover on side of transmission,if leaking replace and bleed, also check clutch master cylinder,if not leaking, then you might need a new clutch kit.
Purchase a repair manual at most parts stores, ( around $12 ) for detailed instructions on this and many other repairs.
Look for leaking fluid at the slave or master cylinder.
The slave cylinder for a manual transmission hydraulic clutch is inside the manual transmission bellhousing
IT is low on fluid or the clutch cylinder is bad or the slave cylinder on the transmission bell housingAnswerOR the pressure plate colasped-OR linkage is broke - but only if the slave cylinder is moving. AnswerUpon further inspection I have found out that I have a leaking steel line from the clutch master cylinder to the slave cylinder. Thanks again for the replys!!!! What if the pedal is pumped and the pressure returns then works properly? could this be from low fluid or something to do with the reservoir or a leak in the line?
The slave cylinder on a 1988 Ranger can not be repaired. The cylinder will have to be replaced, then the system bled.
you must remove the clutch slave cylinder and line. Then unbolt the starser and install the new one
hydraulic clutches cant be adjusted,it might be that your slave cylinder is leaking, look at your transmission, theirs arubber cover that your s. c. is coming thru ,if its leaking, then replace and bleed system ,if not then u need a new clutch.
Remove cylinder after disconnecting fluid line. Use a proper 10mm wrench so as not to round the nuts edges. remove 2 bolts to engine block. Remove cylinder. Using a new cylinder reverse procedure. Put rubber nipple over cylinder pin to the notch in pin. Notch is closest to fork on trans. Push in the cone shaped piston slightly. Move pin in close proximity to fork. Add fluid and bleed entire clutch system by opening the bleed nipple while pressing on clutch to floor. Just bleed like you do brakes. top off fluid.
