I KNOW THIS LOOKS LIKE A TON OF WRITING, BUT ITS ALL WORTH IT TO CARE FOR YOUR HORSE. PLEASE BE SURE TO READ THE WHOLE FACT OR ELSE YOU MIGHT MISS SOMETHING IMPORTANT! =)

Grooming a horse is easy once you know how to do it.

When you groom a horse it is a way of making a bond with your horse. For a horse brushing can feel like a massage does for you when your very kinked up. it also can make an anxious horse calmer and more at peace.

1. Curry comb- A curry comb is used to get rid of dirt, dry skin and hairs that are old and coming loose. To use the curry comb correctly you brush in circles against the way of the hairs (Brushing towards the head) only the horses sides. you can also get different variation's of a curry comb like a fine curry or large curry. they do different things but they also all do the same.

2. Jelly Scrubber- A jelly scrubber is used for the same thing the curry comb is for, but you can use this on the horses stomach, legs and neck. the jelly scrubber is softer and you wont be taking a risk of hurting the horses delicate legs and neck.

3. Dandy brush (Hard)- A dandy brush is used to remove the loose hairs and dirt the curry comb uncovered. this brush is also great for taking off dried on dirt and mud. to use the dandy brush, you stroke then flick it at the end. you brush with the hairs. (towards the tail) anywhere but the face. you can get dandy brushes that are softer or harder.

4. Body brush (Soft)- A body brush is used to make the coat smooth and soft. it also gets rid of any other dirt you missed before. when you use a body brush, you just stroke it over the horses body. anywhere but the face.

5. Hoof pick- A hoof pick is used to remove dirt and pebbles from the horses hoof. when you pick a horses hoof you have to be EXTREMELY careful. there is a sensitive part of the hoof called the frog. it helps to keep the horses grip on ice or other slippery surfaces. if you are just starting out at picking hooves, get someone else to do it for you and when its clean you basically have to memorize the pose of the frog. the frog is the only part with nerves, so if you pick it, its like picking your eye.

6. Face brush- A face brush is specially meant to brush the face. the brush is very soft, so it wont hurt the thin layer of skin. when you use the face brush, just brush with the hairs (towards the muzzle or mouth) and not over the eyes.

7. Mane and tail brush- if you have time and your horses mane is knotted, you can brush it out. yo brush a mane is just like brushing hair. if you brush too hard it hurts. but don't worry if you pull out hair, cause it feels like you are just getting a pinch from a baby. they are meant to be that way so in the wild, predators always attack neck so the horse can now get away. as for the tail you can only brush it with a comb.

That's about it. If you have other special brushes like a leg brush you can always ask someone else how to use it and always be sure you know what you're doing before you do it because if it is wrong, it may hurt the horse.
