how do you bypass passlock system

The Passlock security system is the problem. Should be recalled. Go here http://newrockies.com/?ap_id=craigpeate for a module to bypass the system completely. The resistor workaround at the key isn't always the only problem. I tried it on my 99 Suburban and it didn't do any better with the resister bypass. You need to eliminate the entire security system. Buy the pro module for $179 plus shipping and save yourself the hassle of dealing with it ever again.
You really can't turn it off. They sell bypass kits, but the passlock system has to be working in order for the bypass thing to work.
You can do it with a scanner. Usually when the security light is flashing it means there is a problem with the passlock system. Dealer item and about $500.00-$700.00 to replace parts & reprogram.

They will have to replace the key/tumbler/hall effect switch/wiring and EVO-Passlock module to get it right.
Check to see if the security light is on, on the dash. Could be a passlock system problem and if it is the GM dealer is the only one to fix it & reprogram the system

Prior answer: the key is worn out and neededs to be reprogramed to theft module. turn ing on with out starting for ten mins. then off and on it should program key i think. the dealer should also tell you the right way to do this. very common problem.
There is no kill switch. It's passlock, a passive security system that works with your radio, ignition, and dashboard. There is a procedure to bypass passlock, but it's complicated. To get your car started, just leave the ignition on for 10 minuites and the security light will go out, and you can start your car. If you've recently changed a radio, dashboard, or installed a remote starter, you probably affected passlock.
Only the factory PassLock / PassKey security system.
