I am assuming that you mean the main seal on the crankshaft. Generally replacing the main seal requires that the crankshaft be removed. Which usually means the engine has to come out. I don't know anything about the 3.0l engine. Any of the vehicles that I owned that had a main seal leak never got changed.
It has a 1 piece solid round seal that slides over the rear of the crankshaft. You MUST pull the engine are the transmission to get to the seal.
how do you change crank seal on a 96 geo prizim
yes
the front or rear seal on the timing chain side
That is a 1 piece seal. You will either have to pull the transmission out are the engine what ever you think is the easiest for you.The seal just drives in a housing over the back of the crankshaft.
Where the crankshaft protrudes out past the front of the engine. In the case of a transverse mounted engine, it's the end of the crankshaft that connects to the pulley's.
It is an oil seal at the rear of the engine where the crankshaft comes out of the engine block for the clutch disk or flex plate to bolt on to.
Need to know what seal you are talking about. Front crankshaft seal, wheel seal, etc?
The rear chankshaft seal is on the back end of the engine above the pan and at the rear of the crankshaft.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Raise and safely support the vehicle. 2. Remove the timing belt. Remove the crankshaft damper retaining bolt, the damper and the timing belt sprocket. Remove the sprocket key from the crankshaft. 3. Using a small prybar, pry the oil seal from the engine block; be careful not to score the crankshaft or the seal seat. Clean the seal bore. To install: 4. Using an oil seal installation tool or equivalent, lubricate the seal lip with clean engine oil and drive the new seal into the engine until it seats. 5. The rest of the installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Tighten all bolts to the proper specification.
No you can not. It is a solid round seal that slides over the back of the crankshaft where the fly-wheel bolts up to the crankshaft.
