in the upper portion of the trunk just behind the back seat hit under several layers of carpet there is a plate with about 10 screws. remove this plate and you have total access to the fuel pump, lines and electrical connection. This is on the 3.1 year 1997 manufactured 06-1997

The 2000 model year grand prix (as well as 1997-2002) grand prix has a fuel pump access in the trunk simply lift up the rear carpet it is located approximately 8 inches toward the rear from the back seat. So in short there is no need to remove the tank just remove the carpet then the nuts holding down the access pannel.
