Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise vehicle on a lift or use a floor jack and put on jack stands as needed to keep vehicle from falling on you. Mark the driveline's rear U joint assembly and the yoke to keep it balanced when installing driveline back. You'll have to pull the transmission next. Some models have an inspection plate that you can take off to reach the converter's bolts. If so, you'll need something to turn the flexplate to take off all of the bolts. After the bolts are out, pull the transmission and converter as one unit. If no inspection plate, pull the transmission, you will then have access to the torque converter which is bolted to the flexplate/flywheel. Installation is reversed.

The 1997 Ford Taurus torque converter solenoid can be found on the side of the transmission. The torque converter solenoid will be on the left hand side of the transmission.
