This is on a 06 Jetta GLI (may be different for other models): 1) Remove the front passenger footwell trim 2) Remove the partition 3) Release the cover in the direction indicated by the arrows 4) Pull out the cabin air filter downward from the heating and ventilation unit. Take a note of the orientation for reinstalling. 5) Install is the reverse order of removal.
It is in the bottom of the coolant surge Tank. That is beside the air filter box.

If equipped it is under the dash on the passenger side.
The maintenance schedule (which you should have gotten with the car) for the '06 Solara doesn't specify a replacement mileage or time. It only mandates an inspection every five thousand miles or six months whichever comes first. I suspect the reason is the change schedule will be different for virtually every driver depending on local conditions. If it's been lost, you can download the maintenance schedule from the Toyota Owner's website. Bottom line, check the filter each time you change oil. After a few looks you'll get a feel for how long it takes the filter to get dirty and ready for a change. Don't forget to check your cabin air filter at the same time. Cheers
I have an '07 Sorento. I have to access it through the glove box. I have an '06 Sorento 3.5 L engine. It does not have a cabin filter per technician at Kia dealership. If you have a 3.8L engine you have a cabin filter...
