First off do you want to change an axle shaft or the complete axle housing? for the axle shaft,jack the rear of the truck up take off the wheels and brake drums.make sure truck is securly supported with jackstands.remove the differental cover locate the bolt that holds the cross pin in the carrier.remove the bolt,slide out the cross pin.push the axle in towards the center and remove the c-clip holding the axle in.remove the axle shaft carefully so not to damage the bearings or seal.
The axle shaft nut requires a 1 and 11/16 inch socket.
drop drive shaft, take u- bolts loose from leaf springs, disconnect brake- lines.
The only thing I can fugure you talking about from the question is the axle's. You have a left and a right, the right is shorter; because the pumpkin is off set to the right of the truck. They are axle shaft's.
