As you look at the clear plastic lens on the lamp assembly there is a small release tab on the left side of each light. Slide a small blade screwdriver under the gray trim piece to release the tab, being careful not to break the trim. with another screwdriver carefully pry the assembly downward after the clip is released. The lens & socket will drop out. Replace the lamp (#PC168) and snap the assembly back into place. I have a 2004 Sedan Deville which is a lesser version than the DHS but same body. Don K.
you need to remove the inside panel to get to these bulbs
They are located inside the trunk lid, underneath the felt lining. You need to unsnap and pull back the felt lining to access the bulbs for the license plate light.
Rear license plate lights replacement require that you remove the entire frame with reverse lights. Remove the 3 cover bolts on the inside of trunk, remove license plate, remove the for bolts holding frame to tyrunk lid, slide unit down and out and you will have to twist the bulb sockets and remove the bulbs and install in reverse.

Change brake light bulbs Just remove the rear license plate. You can change the backup lights and brake light easily.
From the outside of the car.. Just un-screw the two screws and change the bulb.

Changing the license plate bulb on a 2002 Lincoln LS is quite simple. You must first remove the license plate first. Then unscrew the old bulbs and screw in your new ones.
There are plastic bulb covers on either side of the license plate. Unscrew the screws and take the covers off. From there you can insert new bulbs.
