The first thing to get to the oil filter is remove the big plastic covering on the bottom. Requires a 10mm socket to remove seven bolts and then there are two pull-out clips. It's very easy. (There's a hole cut in the plastic covering but it doesn't line up with the filter).
Drain the oil by removing the 18mm drain plug.
The filter housing is very easy to find at the front. To loosen you will need a 8mm Allen wrench. You will use that to remove the bolt in the bottom of the housing. You will then need an oil filter socket that is custom fit for the housing. You can use an oil filter wrench to loosen the plastic housing but you must apply pressure gently so as not to damage the housing. Once the housing has been unscrewed past the o-ring it can be unscrewed by hand. The filter element should come out with the plastic housing. Discard the old element along with the old o-rings. There's one o-ring on the plastic housing and one on the bolt.
Lubricate the new o-rings with fresh oil and place them on the housing and bolt. Place a new filter element on the housing and thread the housing back into the engine opening. Be careful not to damage the plastic threads or over-tighten. The o-ring provides the seal so the plastic housing does not need to be screwed in too tight. It does need to be all the way in so that the flange come in contact with the engine. Screw in the bolt all the way, but like the housing it does not need to be too tight as the o-ring provides the seal.
Replace the drain plug and pour in fresh oil. Run the engine for several minutes. Stop the engine and make sure the oil level is correct using the dipstick. Add more oil if needed. My vehicle took 4 quarts of 5W20.

The oil filter is there to trap any tiny particles that are in the oil. You change it because it becomes dirty over time. Change the oil at every oil change.
