Open the tailgate and remove the two screws holding the trim piece. Make a small slit in the insulation to reach the lamp plugs. Turn and pull out. The lamps are now easy to replace. The owner manual instructions are to see the dealer. It's an easy replacement once you start investigating.
Well if you open your trunk you will be able to access your plate bulbs and help you change them with ease.
in the rear facia, under the trunk lid there is 9 bolts holding the facia on. You must remove the nuts and pull the facia out and right above the license is the two bulbs 194. replace the bulbs and put the facia back on and you are on your way.

You need to remove the liner on the trunk lid. That will give you access to the license plate lights housing. Remove the sockets by twisting 1/4 turn and replace bulbs. Size for bulbs are 2825
Change brake light bulbs Just remove the rear license plate. You can change the backup lights and brake light easily.
They are located inside the trunk lid, underneath the felt lining. You need to unsnap and pull back the felt lining to access the bulbs for the license plate light.
From the outside of the car.. Just un-screw the two screws and change the bulb.

There are two housings above the plate all you need is a Phillips head screw driver remove the 4 bolts and change the bulbs it's that easy
It is one big peice that must be removed. If you open the trunk, look on the inside of the lid behind the license plate, and you will find a few nuts that once removed, will allow you to remove the entire rear facia panel that the license plate bolts to and which houses the "PONTIAC" lights.
To change the license plate light on a Pontiac Sunfire, first remove the cover over the bulb with a small screwdriver. Gently push on the bulb and turn 1/4 turn to remove the old bulb. Insert the new bulb and snap in the cover.
