The spark plugs are located along the top of the motor. They are covered by coil packs so you must remove the coil packs first to get to the spark plugs underneath. #1 is the front of the engine. If you are having misfire issues it may be the coil packs.

If it ran fine before then you have 1 of 2 problems. One, the plugs were not gap to the correct distance as stated in the owners manual. Or two, the plugs may be defective. Easiest to replace them all again :( Buy a good brand such as NGK and avoid autolite brand plugs.

There are drain and fill ports with plugs in them. The plugs have square holes that will fit a 1/2" socket driver.
On the 4.2 L I6 the very front of the engine is #1 and the last in the back is #6

4200 Vortec Inline 6 cylinder engine #1 cylinder is at the front of the engine as you stand out front and look at it. Remove the resonator box on top of the motor to expose the coil packs. The spark plugs are under them.
