The oil capacity of a 1996 Kawasaki Vulcan 800 is 2.9L with a filter change, 2.8L without, and 3.1L for a dry engine.
It takes almost exactly a gallon. Just did my oil change on a 2006 Kawasaki Vulcan Classic 900. It was just over a gallon, but a gallon worth was good enough.
Vulcan 1500 is a Kawasaki.

3.3 qt if oil filter is removed 3.1 qt if oil is changed without oil filter removal. buy yourself a pdf manual on ebay.
remove seat. remove tool case. Remove terminals from battery, lift out.
3.2 quarts with filter and 3 quarts without filter.
4.4 US qts without changing filter 4.8 US qts w/filter change
I took the seats off. Loosened the boly at the back of the gas tank. Lifted the tank up and used a 5/8 socket with rachet extention. not sure if that is right, but it worked.
To change the oil pump, you will need to remove the engine and split the crankcase. The oil pump is inside the crankcase. Oil pump is about $160.00, but many hours of engine tear-down and rebuild. Not recommended for persons with little mechanical ability or tools.
