1996 Explorers do not have front struts. They use torsion bars as springs that require special tools to remove and conventional shock absorbers that are easy to remove.
A 1996 Ford Explorer has shock absorbers , front and rear , the cost would vary according to the manufacturer
you need boogers and toilet paper
Struts in the front, shocks in the rear.
Yes, on the front.
On a 1996 Ford Explorer : On the front of the lower control arms you will see a hook ( or bar ) The factory jack is put there to change a front tire
Yes, changing just one can lead to unstable handling. It is recommended to change both sides,front/rear if you are going to do so.And you may need an allinement after changing both front struts if you are not careful. And all of that dose not matter what vehicle you are woking on. I have a 92 Toyota Camry (same model as yours) and they have struts on all four.

The front suspension housing and struts on a 1996 Pathfinder are severely corroded.
Just shock absorbers - 2 on the front - 2 on the rear ( and there is a smaller " shock absorber " that is angled , it's used to stabilize the differential - when the dealership changed my 4 shocks on my 1995 they did not suggest that I have that one changed also )
try under the front passenger seat
Front and rear speakers are 6 X 8.
See below for all Nissan mechanical "how-tos" http://www.shiftice.com/strut_install.html
is the humming coming from the front end of the vehicle? i have a 1996 explorer with the same issue. yes the noise come from the front but not all the time seems to make the humming noise when it gets hot
I just had a price quoted to replace the struts on a 1996 Camry: $1050.00. This includes alignment. (Firestone) My 2001 Taurus cost $475 for front struts, rear shocks and alignment at Dobbs. Not sure about a Camry. I recommend to stay away from Firestone. if you know how to do it yourself, it should cost you no more then $200-$300 for both. just goto kragen or autozone for the parts.
'How do you change a fog light in a 1996 Pontiac Bonneville? ... How do you
Actually , the 1996 Ford Explorer has small emergency brake shoes inside the back of the disc brake rotors on the REAR brakes only
Best accessed if you remove the passenger side tire and look just past the front struts.
Probably dried out shocks or struts, but it could be bushings in the front steering arms
Are you having a problem with your timing CHAIN ?
