The fuel pump is located in the fuel tank, this is a pretty big job and might want to consult a pro but if you do it your self you must drop the tank by undoing the bults on the straps that hold the tank, undo the two on the passenger side of the tank. but first open the gas fill door there are three screws that hold the filler tube in. there is also a groud wire hooked to the fram that you must remove me sure this is in good shape or your fuel pump will not work.I hope you do not have a full tank.. if you slowly lossen the bolts that hold the tank then you sould be able to unhook the line for the top of the tank careful doing this they break very easy on older trucks. support the tank with a floor jack to help lower it. after you get the tank out on top of the tank there is a spaner type hold down that is about 4'' round that sorrounds the tubes that come out of the tank. with a hammer and screwdriver tap the fines on the nut counter clock wise until it releases pull the sending unit from the tank and replace pump( couple of hose clamps and a screw or two is I recall besure to install the filter/boot on the bottom of the unit. repet steps to reinstall. once again besure not do damp the lines I did one and put a pin hole in the line and it ran like crap good luck
most likely you will have to drop the fuel tank because most fuel pumps are in the tank.
