You need a steering lock plate compressor that you can rent from the parts store. But take the steering wheel off {sometimes you need a puller} then the lock plate then the turn signal switch then there is one screw holding the lock in which is just below the lock assy. and has a different head. Take it out and remove the key reminder contacts then pull the lock cylinder out.
The firing order on a 1987 Pontiac Grand Am 3.0 V-6 is 1, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2. The number one cylinder is on the front left as you face it.
