How do you change the license plate light on a 95 Ford Aerostar?

With a Philips head screwdriver. I did it just an hour ago in the parking lot of my favorite auto parts store. In the rain.

I partially opened the door because it was easier to reach than kneeling down. There are 2 screws to remove. You have to take the whole light assembly off. Then pull the bulb socket and bulb straight back. It is not a bayonet lock. Pull the bulb straight out. It is not a bayonet lock either. I had to get a paper towel because it was slippery.

The bulb is a "194" aka a "194LL". I don't know what the the "LL" means but they had red, yellow and blue ones marked "194R" "194Y" and "194B". They were all out of the clear ones. I explained the problem to one of the clerks. He reached under the counter and got a loose item -- the correct bulb -- and said it was on him.

I asked about replacing the little dome for the light. Both were yellowed and this one was cracked. He said only the Ford dealer could do that. I am checking the internet now to confirm that.

I pushed the bulb in the socket, pushed the socket into the dome section and screwed it in.

Then I brought him back his screwdriver.
