I know my 97 Honda civic dx doesn't.

it depends on the year. however, on a 2000 Honda civic there are two bolts that you need to loosen on the left side of the power steering pump. they are attached to the bracket that holds the power steering in place. just loosen those two bolts and the power steering pump should be able to slide up/down. slide the pump enough that it creates enough slack on the belt. then remove the belt that's all there is to it
check your power steering fluid and hoses, if full, then the pump went out

If your Honda Civic is squeaking when you turn the steering wheel then it could be the belt to the power steering pump that needs replacing.
If your car is equiped with power steering, the reservior is located in the engine bay on the drivers side. It is attached to the engine where the belts run.
the only damage you will have to the power steering pump its self .it will not mess up any other function of your motor

IF its the headlight on the drivers side, you have to pull the power steering fluid reservoir to get to it. Just pull it straight up. It'll come off.
P/S pump is located behind the radiator on the driver side....

The adjusting pulley for the power steering is found on the side of the engine under the power steering pump. Loosen the bolt that keeps it tight and the belt will have some slack to slide off the pulley.
