assuming it's an EB/ED GLi!
if it's a globe problem. remove number plate, backing trim in boot. remove screws which holds entire external boot trim. globe plugs located on back of external boot trim. dumb idea Ford
EF/EL:
Open the luggage compartment and remove the carpet around the back side of the boot - there are three fittings on the back of the lamp cluster assembly.... can't remember which is the reverse lamp one - usually bottom right (LHS assembly) or bottom left (RHS assembly). Remove those, twist old globe out - then reassembly is reverse of the above!

In the EA/EB/ED you do not have to remove the numberplate, if you just open the boot and remove the backing panel the reverse light bulb holder just screws out. two screws in the backing panel and four pop clips!
