i just got mine done u will have to unmount the engine and lift the engine with a jack. its on the passenger side of the engine
The tensioner bolt for a 96 Cavalier is in the pulley for the tensioner. The tensioner is in the middle of the front of the engine.
It is the small pulley with a nut in the middle on the pulley assembly!
remove belt via tensioner, four bolts on pulley, five on pump, clean and reverse
Use a 15mm closed end wrench on the tensioner pulley bolt and rotate the tensioner arm away from the drive belt. Remove the old belt and release the tensioner slowly so that it will not snap back and ruin it.
1. Place a three-eighths-inch ratchet driver into the square hole on the face of the tensioner pulley. The idler pulley is bolted onto the side of the engine block and does not attach to any other accessories. 2. Pull up on the ratchet handle to release tension on the Cadillac's serpentine belt. Pull the belt off the tensioner pulley. Don't remove the belt from any of the other pulleys. 3. Remove the two bolts that secure the tensioner arm to the engine block using a socket and ratchet. The pulley permanently mounts to the tensioner arm. 4. Remove the tensioner arm and pulley from the engine bay.
the only belt with a tensioner is the timing belt, to tighten the alt belt loosen the adjustment bolt then tap the alt back then retighten the bolt
Remove the intake manifold. The starter is underneath.
Loosen the bolt on the tensioner pulley until the pulley freely slides along it's track. Put the belt on, paying close attention to the diagram that should be on the inside of your hood on a sticker. If you don't have one, don't worry, the belt will only fit when it is "wrapped" the correct way. Once you get the belt on, it will still be pretty loose. You will need to tighten it using the tensioner pulley. Make sure the tensioner pulley is tightened down completely.
10-30...........change every 7K miles
loosen the pulley, side the belt off, slide the new one on, tighten the pulley
for a 1997 olds aurora you have to press the engine "eng" button till you get to the "change oil now" then press and hold the reset button till it says "oil life 100%". it should be the same for a 96.
idler pulley, the only one that will move
