- Remove transmission pan & gasket (#74 & #75)
- Remove old Transmission Fluid filter (#79)
- Install new transmission fluid filter (#79)
- Install new gasket (use gasket adhesive to seal the gasket to the pan, wait 10 minutes to allow for complete adhesion, use gasket adhesive to seal the gasket to the transmission case & hold the pan to the case for 5-10 minutes while adhesive seals the pan/gasket/case together)
- Reinstall mounting bolts
- Flush transmission fluid
* Tighten drain screw (2). Torque: 38 Nm (28 ft. lbs.) * Remove the transmission overfill screw (1) and fill transmission through overfill screw opening, using DEXRON-III ATF. Note: Add transmission fluid until it flows out over the overfill screw opening. * Let engine idle until a fluid temperature between 32°C (90°F) and 57°C (135°F) is reached. * Add transmission fluid until it flows out over the overfill screw opening, then close the overfill screw (1). Torque: 38 Nm (28 ft. lbs.) Note: To prevent fluid leaks, the overfill screw and oil drain screws gasket must be replaced each time these screws are removed. Note: Check transmission fluid temperature with scan tool.

If you are referring to the oil filter, the answer is NO! The oil filter is not located inside the oil pan. If you are talking about the transmission filter, the answer is Yes. The transmission pan must be removed the change the A/T filter.

The filter is located behind the torque converter in the Lancer. Changing the filter is a long process and is recommended only if there is an issue with the transmission.
All there is to do is to change the fluid and the filter.
