You'll have to drop the transmission pan. Make sure you have a large container to catch the Transmission Fluid. In my opinion, it would be better to take it to a shop. If you go there with the understanding that a transmission shop will probably try to sell you a transmission rebuild, you should be ready to say no. Most likely they will point to a little bit of metal shavings in the bottom of the pan and tell you that it means your transmission is about to fail. Just have them change the fluid and filter. It doesn't really cost much more than doing it yourself and if you can say no.
