Tha transfer case has a shift sheet, not the transmission. The transmission has a bushing and shift bolt. The bushing is usually rotted and the bolt mos likely sheared in half. When you pull out the shift level, be careful not to let the broken bolt tip fall into the tranny.

the pin is broke inside the shifter case. put it in neutral, if possible, and unbolt the 4 bolts holding the case in place. it should take a 12mm. once you remove the shifter, the little pin inside the shifter case should be wiggly. just replace it. i did it when i was 12

It needs a new 'Shifter Sheet' Easy to put in and not too expensive. It is available on Ebay.

87 trans will fit 88 but not to sure about 88 1/2 and later models
ck transmission gear selector on transmission. follow cable from shifter to (usually) top of trans. it is electronic
