If this is a V6 engine, remove the ignition wires from the spark plugs and set them out of the way. If this has a V6 engine with MFI or TPI, remove the upper intake. If this is a V6 with SFI, remove the ignition coil mounting bracket and also the heater pipe at the top of the water pump housing. If this is a 4-cylinder engine, remove the air cleaner and EGR valve.
Unbolt and remove the valve covers. Remove the gaskets and clean away any traces of old gasket material. Use the most expensive brake-parts cleaner available at your parts store to clean all mating surfaces, allow to dry, and wipe with disposable household paper towels.
If this is a V6 engine, place a dab of RTV or Assembly Adhesive in the corners where the cylinder heads meet the intake manifold. There are two such corners under each valve cover.
If this is a 4-cylinder engine, use Spray Tack or Disc Brake Quiet to glue the gasket into place on the cylinder head. If this is a V6 engine, carefully seat each gasket into the valve cover.
Place each valve cover into it's correct position and install the bolts. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN the bolts.
Replace any other parts that have been removed.
Replace the engine oil and filter.
Run the engine for a minimum of two minutes, then shut it off and replace the oil and filter again. Check for leaks.
