Hi,i thought VW were..air-cooled?.....i know the beetle is....so it wont have a Thermostat...The job of a Thermostat,....it opens and closes when the water temperature gets to a certain level..........go onto Ebay...i get a workshop manual for your car,thats the easiest and cheapest way to do your repair.

In a 93 jetta it is located in the water pump.Just 2 bolts holding it in. Be carfull not to strip them when unsrewing them from the alum. housing. If your car's overheating gague or light is on yet a thermometor in the radiator indicats 180 deg's.It is the temperature sensor not your thermostat.
