  1. Drain the cooling system.
  2. Drain the engine oil.
  3. Set the engine to Top Dead Center (TDC) of the compression stroke for the No. 1 cylinder.
  4. Disconnect the negative battery cable
  5. Remove the air cleaner assembly
  6. Remove the spark plug wires
  7. Remove the cooling fan and shroud
  8. Remove the distributor
  9. Remove the valve cover
  10. Remove the accessory drive belts
  11. Remove the Power Steering pump and brackets
  12. Remove the A/C compressor and bracket
  13. Remove the idler pulleys
  14. Remove the water pump pulley
  15. Remove the crankshaft pulley
  16. Remove the front crankshaft seal
  17. Remove the oil pump and drive spindle
  18. Remove the oil pan
  19. Remove the upper timing cover
  20. Remove the lower timing cover
  21. Remove the upper timing chain tensioner
  22. Remove the upper timing chain and camshaft sprockets. Matchmark the timing chain to the sprockets.
  23. Remove the lower timing chain tensioner
  24. Remove the lower timing chain and idler sprocket. Matchmark the timing chain to the sprockets.
  25. Install the lower timing chain and idler sprocket with the timing marks aligned as shown. Tighten the idler sprocket bolt to 48-61 ft. lbs. (66-83 Nm).
  26. Install the lower timing chain tensioner. Tighten the bolts to 56-66 inch lbs. (6.5-7.5 Nm).
  27. Install the upper timing chain and camshaft sprockets with the timing marks aligned as shown. Tighten the camshaft sprocket bolts to 123-130 ft. lbs. (167-177 Nm).
  28. Install the upper timing chain tensioner. Tighten the bolts to 56-66 inch lbs. (6.5-7.5 Nm).
  29. Install the lower timing cover. Tighten the large bolts to 12-14 ft. lbs. (16-19 Nm) and the small bolts to 56-66 inch lbs. (6.5-7.5 Nm).
  30. Install the upper timing cover. Tighten the large bolts to 12-14 ft. lbs. (16-19 Nm) and the small bolts to 56-66 inch lbs. (6.5-7.5 Nm).
  31. Install the oil pan
  32. Install the oil pump and drive spindle
  33. Install the front crankshaft seal
  34. Install the crankshaft pulley. Tighten the bolt to 105-112 ft. lbs. (142-152 Nm).
  35. Install the water pump pulley
  36. Install the idler pulleys
  37. Install the A/C compressor and bracket
  38. Install the power steering pump and brackets
  39. Install the accessory drive belts
  40. Install the valve cover
  41. Install the distributor
  42. Install the cooling fan and shroud
  43. Install the spark plug wires
  44. Install the air cleaner assembly
  45. Connect the negative battery cable
  46. Fill the cooling system.
  47. Fill the crankcase to the correct level.
  48. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  49. Check the ignition timing and adjust, as necessary.
