The upper ball joints must be replaced with the upper control arms but the lower ball joints can be replaced seperately. NOTE: THE BEST WAY TO GET THEM OUT IS TO KNOCK THEM OUT WITH A 3LB MINI SLEDGE HAMMER FROM AUTOZONE. According to my Haynes repair manual it states that 1995 and newer models upper and lower balljoints are not removable or serviceable. If a balljoint is damaged or worn, replace the control arm.

It's a PITA but worth it. I did upper and lower joints on both sides for the first time it took me about 8 hours. Make sure you get the proper tools and I recommend watching a few videos of it being done so you have a good idea when you get into it.
NO, it has upper and lower ball joints on each side that hold the spindles in place.
My Haynes repair manual ( 1991 thru 2001 Ford Explorer ) shows on 1995 and newer that the balljoints on upper and lower control arms are not removable or serviceable . If a balljoint is damaged or worn , replace the control arm . ( my Chilton repair manual also shows the same information )
On a 1995 Ford Explorer : No ( at least my 1995 Ford Explorer XLT doesn't )
On you tube.( Eric the car guy )show how to do this.
You have to change the upper control arm.
Check the ball joints. If they are dry grease them. If the ball joints are good try looking at the stabilizer bushings and the links. Greasing these will fix the horrible squeaking coming from the front end.
why is heater on 1995 explorer lukewarm
About 4 years. Consider yourself lucky! I'm still driving my 1995 Explorer XLT and I have no plans to change !
take out the old ones first..... then put in the new ones.
