I took my beetle in for the same question and was told at the dealership there is NO dipstick as the tranmission is so good it will last a lifetime and there is no need to do anything. What caused me to look in the first place was the car's unwillingness to go into reverse on cooler morning. The colder it was the longer it took to shift into gear and begin to move. The dealer told me this was normal and they did check the fluid level. Seems there is a plug someplace they can remove and stick in their finger tip and see if the fluid is high enough. After this going on for a few more months, the car now won't sift out of first gear, just like a "normal" car with low fluid. I have not been back to the dealer for more indepth help yet, but will clue you in if you like. From what I read, these transmissions are costly and in need of some redisign work. I believe this is my last "bug." Frustrated in Katy, TX Ross
You dont or you just change it
The transmission is serviced with lifetime fluid and does not have a dipstick. The fluid can be changed by the dealership with a special tool.
the VW dealership told me it is a sealed transmission. So drive it till it drops. At least that's what they told me.
