How do you check for a short in your car wiring?
You must check for continuity in the wiring. You will need a voltage/continuity tester. place one lead at one end of the wiring and place the other at the opposite end of the wiring. If the continuity tester does not indicate a constant flow of continuity it will NOT light up or "sound off."

Why would a neutral wire and a hot wire have continuity?
You could have a short or it could just be that you are reading through a load. Take a lamp and check for continuity at the plug, with a bulb in the lamp you will get continuity, take the bulb out if you still have continuity then you have a short in the wire or the lamp. Same thing happens in the wiring of your house on a larger scale.

A faulty power window switch or faulty wiring. The motor works in either direction (there is only one motor per window), so it's not the motor but the wiring or the window switch. Unless the motor control is damaged, that is. Check the switch for continuity first, then check the continuity of the wiring. The brake indicator light tests continuity to your brake lights and activates if continuity is broken. This means one of the bulbs is out or there is a problem in the wiring to the lights. The light also comes on when you start your car and stays on for a few seconds along with the flashing "check" signal on your dash. If you wait or push the check button above your rear view mirror the lights should go out. If the brake indicator light doesnt go out check your brake lights and make repairs if necessary. The light should function correctly after the bulb is replaced or wiring is repaired. If not you may have a malfunction in your active check control system wich is behind the panel of lights above your mirror.
