Take the car to a auto parts place like AutoZone, most parts places will check your battery and charging system.
If you have a voltmeter an want to try to check it yourself measure the voltage across the battery before starting the car and check it again when the car is running. The voltage should be at least 2 volts higher when running. Normally, it will be about 13.5-14.5 maybe more volts when running. But, this is not a conclusive/certain check. Alternators have devices in them to make the charging go only one way. If these devices have failed the charge can be coming in and going back out and still the voltage will check okay.
All what you need to do is to check your charging system if it is working properly. Second thing you can check your charger-socket and your charger head i mean the transformer.
Check the voltage on the battery when it's not running and then start the tractor and check the voltage again - it should read higher than without the motor running and if it doesn't your charging system isn't working.
replace the alternator if your system isn't charging.
When the battery light is on. That means your charging system isn't working. You should have your system check. It will drain your battery.
You do not need to modify the alternator if it is working properly. The voltage regulator controls the output of the alternator and it does function at low RPMs, if all systems are working properly. So if it is not charging at low RPMs you have a problem. Most auto parts stores will check your charging system free of charge. You do not need to modify the alternator if it is working properly. Yes, as long as the charging system is is good working order.
I have replaced the alternator then a blinking light came on and says check charging system. The battery was then switched out, the light continues to blink I had the new alt checked and it is working fine. Any suggestions?
Auto Zone will check your charging system for FREE. Go to any Auto Zone and have them check your Alternator / and charging system.
Go to autozone and get a free charging system check.
If the battery and alternator are good and the charging system is not working, then you either have loose or corroded wiring or the drive belt is slipping.
It means that the computer has detected a malfunction in the charging system. It could be over or under charging. You will need to have the system checked.
Charging system is not working as it should. More than likely a defective alternator. Any auto parts store can check it for you.
