You must lift up the Passanger seat to uncover the engine access, there are clips in front of the seats that can be undone, although they could be anywhere depending on the year. I must add that I only ever owned 1 Toyota Master Ace Surf, and it was In Japan, so RHD. It was also back in 1994, and I believe the van I had was a 1987-88, Manual transmission, RWD. So I am recalling from 14 years ago. Hope this helps!
