On the passenger side of the transmission there should be two large hex-screws towards the top. The upper one is the transmission fill plug.

There is an inspection port on the side of the transmission. Use a 15/16 wrench to loosen and remove the bolt. Stick your finger into the hole. With the Jeep on a level surface you should feel the lubricant just below the edge of the port.
First if it's a Automatic transmission you drive it around some to get it warm then you check the dipstick level if its on the full mark then it's fine. With a manual transmission you have can just check the dipstick.
