find the "diagnosis" connection box under the hood left side of engine. open; attach jumper wire to "e1" + "te1" & count flashes of check eng light to obtain codes.

yes there is an ECM plug in engine bay take cover off and plug a jumper wire to these 2 pins .. jump pin 2 to test wire as shown in diagram .. then go inside the van and turn the key to on (dont start) and the check engine will start to flash .. read the flashes. http://www.troublecodes.net/Ford/
No, you need at least 8 gauge for jumper cables.
Some older wire does not have a ground. All you can do in that case is use a jumper wire to connect the ground to the neutral.
