This is how I do it, loosen the radiator petcock and drain down the cooling system. Remove both heater hoses from the engine side only. Fabricate a fitting that fits into the heater hose and also attaches to a garden hose. Attach the fitting to either one of the heater hoses and the garden hose. Direct the remaining heater hose down to the floor possibly into a large container. Gently turn on the water and gradually increase the water flow until it is on full. Notice the crud that comes out. Now reverse the flow through the heater core by swapping the garden hose to the other heater hose and repeat process until the water runs clear. Reattach the heater hose to the engine and refill the cooling system with fresh coolant.
Remove the water from your 1998 Chevy Camaro cooling system. Remove the water supply hoses from the heater core. Remove the heater core retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new heater core.

No it will not, it will just back flush the heater core and clean it out.

You will have only cold air coming thru your heater ducts if your core is defective.
