Probably. Although it may be possible to make one without using a zener diode if you really want to. The zener diode is often used to keep voltage levels at exactly the desired value (ie 5 volts). Other methods may exist to do this, but I'd wager can be much more complicated.
A: It must have an input limiting resistor. What value? say 12 zener and the load is 200ma then from a source of 15 volts the resistor becomes 15-12=3v
since there is 200ma load that will be added to the zener breakdown current lets say 10% or 20 ma so 3v/.22 amps = 13.64 ohms. be aware for the zener not to blow up it must be able to handle both load and its own breakdown current to be effective. THAT PART COMES UNDER DEVICE DISSIPATION SPEC..
to limit the voltage or regulate the same.
A zener diode has a relatively flat voltage to current curve when reverse biased. Within limits, you can consider that the voltage across the zener diode is constant. You can use the zener as the primary regulator, so long as you consider the power requirements and dissipation of both the zener and the load, and you do not overload the zener. More often, the zener is used as a voltage reference in a larger power supply that uses other components, linear or switched, to supply the load.
zener diode is a revers bias diode which used for voltage regulation.
Since the zener conducts and regulates voltage in reverse bias, the 5V would bias the zener on with a 4.7V drop. If the 5V source had a low enough impedance, the zener or the source would self destruct.

First you connect a trnsformer to the main supply and then a rectfier .youmay connect a zener diode or a resistor or a capacitor as a filter circuit
The purpose of a zener diode connected at the output of a common supply is to stabilize the output voltage in case a load is connected to it.
zener resistance of a zener diode is the resistance of the zener diode but which is the resistance of a diode
It should be marked, either on the diode or on the box it came in. If you can't find the mark, then you have to measure it yourself. Take the zener diode, a battery or DC power supply, and a resistor. Wire them all in series, with the NEG (cathode) end of the diode closer to the POSitive side of the battery or power supply. Connect your voltmeter across the diode, and slowlyincrease the power supply output voltage while watching the meter. You'll see the voltage across the diode increase slowly, tracking the power supply, until you reach the Zener voltage. At that point, the voltage across the diode won't increase any more; it'll just stay there at its 'reverse breakdown' voltage, which is the Zener voltage. (If the voltage across the diode goes to around a volt and won't go any higher, the polarity is wrong. Reverse either the diode or else the power supply.) You probably want a wild guess at what the value of the resistor should be. That's difficult to specify if I don't know the power rating of the Zener diode you're testing. I'm going to make the following suggestion completely in the blind: Select the resistor to limit the series current to 30 mA even if you have to crank the power supply up to 50 volts. R = 50/.03 = 1.5 to 2 K-ohms, rated for a couple of watts.
A zener diode passes drect current, and the point of a zener diode is that the voltage across it stays nearly constant over a range of different currents, so it can provide a supply of stabilised voltage.
Zener diode is heavily doped pn junction diode.
Applications of Zener diode: a.)It Regulators. b.)It Controlled Comparators. c.)It Limiters. d.)It is Part in Power Supplies.
The difference between the pn-junction diode and the zener diode is that the pn-junction diode is used for rectification while the zener diode is used for rectification and stabilization. Also, the zener diode can function in the breakdown region while the pn-juntion diode can not function in that regime.
zener diode use as power regulator and it removes the small pics generated while the time of conversion by rectifies supply from AC to Dc...it is compulary to fixed a zener diode with rectifiier circuit for the protection of electronics devices....we all know that all electronics eqiupments arework on DC... on more think zener diode available in the series of 74XX ..i hope u satisfied.. ANSWER: It uses its own controlled breakdown voltage as a regulator since the voltage remains the same while current may go up or down caused by the varying input
zener diode :zener diode operates under reverse bias voltageideal diode :ideal diode operates under forward bias voltage
