With a pressure pad
where does the clutch cable go from the pedal?? my clutch snapped earlier
You can tell by how much higher the clutch pedal is to the brake pedal. when new pedals are at the same height.
its a non adjustable cable clutch but u can make a small adjustment at the pedal
The clutch cable has proabably broken.
To replace a clutch cable fork on an Escort 1.85 diesel, first lift the clutch pedal to release the adjuster mechanism. Pull the cable through and hook the clutch cable fork.
Step one is to remove the large wing nut on the clutch actuating arm on the transaxle, located ahead of the engine, oin the drivers side, on top of the transaxle. Next, you have to remove the accelerator cable from either the pedal assembly, or detatch it from your carb linkage. Lastly, you need to remove the two bolts holding the pedal assembly on, one in front of the accelerator pedal, and one behind it. The pedal assembly should pull right out of it's mounting hole and you will have access to the clutch pedal hook and the clutch cable. Remove the clutch cable, inspect the clutch pedal hook to make sure it isn't getting too worn out ( I have had one of these hooks break off on me from years of driving and a Kennedy pressure plate ), then thread the new clutch cable into it's guide tube, hook the end onto the back side of the clutch pedal, re-install the pedal assembly, then the large wing nut and accelerator cable. The adjustment is made on the clutch cable, near where it connects to the tranny.
The self adjusting mechanism of the clutch cable can be slipping and making a click noise and not engaging the clutch when you press the pedal. You might just need a new clutch cable.
Stiffness can be from the cable being corroded or jammed full of mud. If the cable is not at fault then lubricate the clutch peddle axle.
there is a self adjusting mechanism fixed to the clutch pedal that actuates wen pedal is depressed taking up the slack in the cable compensating for clutch wear hope this is of help to you
Hiya, to make it easy if your unsure of where the clutch cable is lift the bonnet and get someone to depress the clutch pedal for you, you`ll soon identify it, looking at the cable approx 5cm along the cable is a circular weight i grip this with a pair of mole/vice grips,( a mechanic might tell you different but it works for me) grip this so it can`t rotate, then with the appropriate spanner turn the nut at the end of the cable clockwise or anticlockwise depending on your clutch pedal height in the car so that your clutch pedal is level with your brake pedal give or take 3mm, and that's it, job done
