Dont forget to set its output container to AVI. Once you have click the "Encode (Active Files)" button, make sure that you have selected "DIVX -All DivX Players compatible!" in the Rendered file optimizer dialog box, and click OK.

Depends on bit rate, resolution and length of file. H264, DIVX and XVID generally have smaller file sizes for comparable quality.

There exist some DivX players that do. Most don't. Mp4 is a container format that is a form of mpg. If you already have your DivX player and it plays mpg files but not mp4, one trick to try is to rename the suffix (file type) of the file to .mpg.
