You determine how much to bore an engine by how much wear is on cylinder walls if wear exceeds .003 thousands over factory specs then it must be bore to the next .010 thousands over cylinders are only bored in .010 thousands increments and every measure is using factory specs as reference point
Its not a matter of how little you can but how much, i would prolly say to be safe 70 or 80. If you bore to much out , the engine will run to hot, thus you need to be very careful and know what you are doing.
The bore adds about 10 cu. inches to make it a 337
ive heard you can go 60 over (.060)
I'm not a mechanic / technician but as far as I know that is where the engine cylinder bore is larger than the stroke
Depends on the pistons, camshaft profile, timing, etc... without the rest of the engine info no one can help you.
4.040". The standard bore is 4.00".
You can bore a 350 .090 over, but the thing is the bore is so big that the cylinder walls are about a hair line thickness apart. In order for the engine to accept the bore and punishment of the shear power, the 350 Block must be casted with extra carbon to strengthen the block.
Well about .030 and .040 over is pretty good, but .060 over would probably be the most you'd want to go with a 318. If you bore it .080 or .090 over then your asking for trouble.
.030 is the max you can bore a 92 305 i dont belive you can bore more then .030 over Some blocks you can go .40 over but the cylinders start getting thin and if you are building a H.P. engine you will have problems with overheating
Take off a cylinder head and measure the diameter of the bore.
It would probably be close to a 340 as the 340 is the same engine block as the 318. The stock 318ci has a 3.910 in. bore with a 3.31 in. stroke the very same stroke as a 340ci. The stock 340ci has a 4.04 in. bore. The .060 in. over bore would result in a 328ci engine. The formula for this is, 1/2 bore x 1/2 bore x 3.14 x stroke x number of cylinders.
Absolutely not!! The cylinder walls won't take that much over bore before you're in to the water jackets.
