lift the car for more room lifting the wheels off the ground,leave wheels hanging.
remove all hex nuts and bolts,front and rear,(you may have to rotate the shaft to get the right spot for tool to fit in), at this point it should come out (but it probally won't) now you need to bang the shaft to loosen it or pry it apart.the rear yoke is harder because it slips in the tranfer case..use a screw driver and just keep trying to separate.you may want to spray it with some penetrating oil.it will come loose. NO, NO, NO,!!! tow only if you disconnect drive shaft. I have had to fix to many KIA sportages with BLOWN trannys because of attempting to TOW.
It is recommended to always disconnect the negative cable from the battery first and reconnect it last when the job is done.
yes if it is two wheel drive and you disconnect the drive shaft. otherwise its big bucks for NEW tranny.The only other way is RV World can put a tranny disconnect on the sportage but again not cheap, but cheaper than new tranny.
