How do you disconnect the wire from spare tire when removing the spare tire from the Dodge Caravan?

The wire isn't what's stopping you from getting the tire down. It's the "T" shaped plastic retainer. It's stuck in the capture mechanism and the mechanism is rusted. VERY common problem on these vans. You'll have to soak the mechanism with rust penetrant and try working it until it releases.
