Salut: Some of the letters are different than in american (a, j, p, and a couple others), and of course there are different signs for some words. Even in the US, the signs might change as one travels from the north to the south, for example. sign languange is a language, and has all of the characteristics of other languages (dialects, word changes, different meanings, and, if you can understand me, different sounds).

One has to study sign in french the same as one wold in the US. Good luck.
