Drop your RPMs to 900 - 1000, take it out of gear, rev the motor up to 1500 RPMs, put it into the next gear down - the same way you would with a nine or a ten speed - for your major shifting motions. If you're just looking to drop to the bottom side of a gear, you simply flip the side button back, and give the accelerator a little tap. If you wanted to downshift from, say, 12th to 11th gear, you'd flip the side button forward, then downshift into the next hole the same way you would if it were a nine speed.

When you're ready to shift into third, you pull the splitter back, then you shift like you would a progressive shift transmission.. you repeat this all the way to 10th.This is for an actual Super Ten transmission.. "Super 10" is often used as a misnomer for the 9 speed "top two" transmissions, where the overdrive gear is split to where you can run in the low hole or the big hole, like a 13 speed, except it makes the shifts between them automatically.

If you already know how to shift an unsynchronized transmission, I'm guessing you learned on a 10 speed. The difference is... eliminate the first and sixth gear from a ten speed, and you have your nine speed shift pattern (as well the base shift pattern for the 8LL, 13 speed, and 18 speed). Schools teach you to take it out of gear at 1500 RPMs and drop it into the next gear at 1000 when upshifting, and they teach you to take it out of gear either at 1000 RPMs, take the engine up to 1500 RPMs, then drop it into the next lower gear when downshifting. Shifting at 1500 bogs down the engine... I upshift at 1900.
