on the left side (same side as the oil filter), attached to the bottom of the frame, near the swing arm, there is a hose attached to the frame with a slip on clip. loosen the hose clamp at the end of the drain hose, pull the frame clip out of the hose (acts as plug for the hose), and start to drain the oil. at this point you can now take out the oil cap on the oil tank to allow for it to drain faster.

The drain hose is connected to a nipple underneath the battery tray.
There is a rubber line that attaches to the bottom of the oil bag. Pull that line and the oil will drain
The 883 Sportster takes just under 3 quarts of oil
It will depend upon whether you mean the engine oil drain or the Primary/Transmission oil drain. The oil drain for the engine oil is actually NOT a plug. Underneath the engine is a hose that is clamped to a boss on the frame. Loosening the worm clamp and pulling the hose off the boss will cause the oil to dump (you did put the drain pan under there, didn't you?)
1 quart. Make sure you drain that old oil first!
what type of oil for a 1993 Harley Sportster 883
recently bought a 883 up. to 1200 with no manuel need to know what kind of oil i should use and where to add this oil also where is the oil drain plug thanks
Primary oil and transmission are the same. The crankcase is different. They are separated.
It's a hose from the tank to a dummy fitting on the frame....unclamp the hose and the oil runs out. When changing the engine oil, don't forget to also change the primary/transmission oil.

ANSWER: There is a tube underneath the engine right in front of the rear tire with a plug secured by a clamp. Remove that plug and let the oil drain into a containor. Replace the oil with fresh in the oil reservoir on the right side underneath the seat.
