First you Google 'Federal Court', then open a Pacer Account with a credit card.
After your account has been approved, you are free to look up any federal case online.
If you do not have a credit card, you can go to your nearest Federal Court and use their public computers for free.
You can call the police or sheriff, or the Prosecutor's office.
If the case has reached the court stage you can go to the Clerk Of The Court's office and give them the name of the case and they should be able to tell you at what point the case stands.

You can find federal tax software anywhere on the Internet if you search it. I highly doubt there would be one for free, usually you have to pay a price to have them help you prepare taxes.
