Someone would find out how much money someone owes in unpaid parking tickets from 5 years ago by contacting the parking enforcement agency in each state. Having unpaid parking tickets can potentially mean that someone's car can be impounded.
You pay them...
There is a statute of limitations on unpaid traffic tickets in BC of five years. This can be renewed if the city attorney wishes to extend the limit.
It seems from my own past experience 5 years.
In 10 years of driving, how many traffic tickets (other than parking tickets) do you think a typical driver would receive?
I would say that the chances for one or both is good.
Technically they can keep them forever. I have dealt with tickets from Texas that were as much as 20 years old and were showing up when the court computerized their files.
Yes, there is reciprocity. My friend's wife's car used to be registered in Florida. When she got tickets here in Chicago, it took a long time to get notices, but they did finally arrive at her registered address in Florida. It took over 2 years, but they did show up. The ticket is attached to the car, and the owner of the car. We loaned someone a vehicle of ours years ago, and she racked up many parking tickets at a college. Guess who was responsible for the tickets, the owner is. Unless the ticket is handed to you with your name on it, the owner is responsible.
Warrants are active until canceled by the court that issued the warrant. They do not expire.
well from what I understand it isn't guaranteed to fall off but I had two unpaid tickets from 2007 drop off my dmv record this year (2012) so i'm assuming its 5 years in California. but even though they are no longer holding my license I still owe the money to the court
I'm pretty sure they stay on your driving record forever. Two and a half a years
If there is an outstanding warrant for the tickets it may show up. The best thing you can do is contact that locale and find out if they issued warrants or simply dismissed the action.
