I pieced this together from a couple of answers I found elsewhere:

I think you can just replace the plastic part without taking the cable out. Check out the vectorbd archives as this has been discussed a few times. The battery does have to come out. The book does not say so but I

also found it easier, to remove the air cleaner and the battery tray,

which are both quite simple relative to the extra room you will gain. If it is the plastic clip that broke, just get a new one and leave the

cable alone. To get the new nylon bit in, bend the metal track that the nylon

clip's "finger" runs in out of the way, then when the nylon end is

attached to the hook at the top of the clutch pedal, bend the track

back. DO NOT try to attach the nylon link to the end of the cable yourself. Simply mount the spring metal retainer on the nylon, attach the nylon

to the top of the clutch pedal and then grab the bottom of the pedal

and pull it all the way up. You will hear a loud "click" when it hits

the top of the travel; that is the spring metal clip engaging over the

end of the cable AUTOMATICALLY. The cable end is conical for a

reason: to make the connection to the cable as easy as pie. It is a five minute job, tops. Everyone should carry a spare nylon clip in their car.

Is it hard to change a shift cable on a VW Fox?

It is tricky to change the clutch cable. There is a clip that holds it on the clutch pedal and it hooks over the clutch arm down by the bellhousing on the other end. The clutch arm is fairly easy to access and remove the cable from the engine compartment. The clutch pedal end took a little while. I had to undo the fuse box and let it hang to acces the pedal arm. The cable hooks on this end also, but has a little clip that holds it on the arm. Once the cable is unfastened from the arm, you can pull it out through the firewall. Installation went better than removal for me, a little adjusting after its in and youre all set! Good luck!

How do you fit a new clutch cable to a Vauxhall Corsa X reg?

Check and record the thread length of the old cable found sticking out of the adjuster block on the clutch arm. Remove the securing clip and remove cable from the arm.Inside the car, unhook the cable end from the pedal. Pull the cable out of the bulkhead from the engine side, push the new one in the same way and hook on to pedal.Make sure the cable follows the same routing as the old one,no tight bends no chafing.Connect up to clutch arm and set threads to saved measurement, this will be somewhere near right. Inside car, measure distance from steering wheel rim to pedal and note it.Then depress clutch fully and re-measure the steering wheel to pedal distance. The difference between the two measurements should be 126mm to 132mm.If not correct, adjust the cable adjuster on clutch arm a turn at a time and recheck. You may go the wrong way first time,it's a bit trial and error.NOTE When correctly set up,the brake pedal and clutch pedal will be not be parallel, the clutch pedal will sit a bit higher.Lastly, refit the securing clip to the cable on the clutch arm.

How do you change a clutch cable on a J Reg Cavalier 2.0 SRI?

For access,if fitted remove electrical relay box,(3 bolts)and lay aside, remove hydraulic oilreservoir(1 bolt)and lay aside upright. Measure thread length of inner cable thru the adjuster on clutch arm and note it. Remove retaining clip and cable from clutch arm. In car, remove return spring and cable hook from pedal. Remove cable assembly from bulkhead pulling thru engine compartment. Push new cable thru bulkhead and reconnect cable and return spring to pedal. Fit cable inner to clutch arm and reset thread to noted length. Back in car, measure distance from top of clutch pedal pad to rim of steering wheel, then depress clutch fully and remeasure.Difference should be 134 to 141mm on rhd car.Adjust at clutch arm to correct it. LHD is 129 to 130mm. When dimension is correct, refit retaining clip on clutch arm. Note Clutch pedal correctly set will be higher than brake and have no free play. Refit relay box and hydraulic res.

Your Saturn is stuck in reverse Could it be the clutch linkage?

There isn't any linkage, it has a cable, check to see if the cable is loose. There is a U clip that holds the cable in place,if the U clip is in place and there isn't any slack in the cable, it could be your tranny. Is the clutch disengaging? If when you push the clutch in the engine can be turned over or the car can be pushed, it is not a problem with the clutch.

How do you fit a peugeot 106 clutch cable?

To get the cable outer free of the bulkhead you need to work inside the car - the cable is a tight snap fit in the hole with plastic "barbs". I cut a notch in the surrounding rubber gasket so that I could see the end of the cable outer. Then use a pin punch and a hammer to free the cable from the hole. I broke off one of the barbs which is of no consequence on the old cable. As you have discovered, there is no access under the bonnet due to the steering rack. The real joker with this job is access to the top of the clutch pedal to release the spring clip to enable the plastic end of the new cable to be hooked in (this is where they always break). Unless you are Houdini, take the nut off the clutch pedal pivot bolt, get an assisant to open a brake bleed nipple and lower the brake pedal sufficiently to free the captive pivot bolt. Fitting the new cable inner to the top of the clutch pedal is now "easy". Bleed the brake if you have let any air in, and don't forget to top up the fluid. To get the new cable outer back in the hole, refit everything and get an assistant to press the clutch pedal whilst you guide the outer into position under the steering rack. I replaced an auto-adjust cable with a manual adjust type from a motor factor - very cheap. Beware, there are two patterns of cable with differing bulkhead fittings, both are available. The manual adjust cable has been no problem in use and requires very little adjustment, just make sure there is a little free play at the pedal. Best of luck; it's easier than it sounds when you've done one, and mind your back!

How do you bleed a clutch of a 2000 Ford Transit van?

you will need two people 1 person inside to pump pedal other to take pipe out when pedal is held down first pump pedal 10 times on the tenth time hold pedal down then on the clutch master cylinder on the bulk head there is a pipe with a retaining clip around it going into it un clip the clip and pull pipe out one notch not all of it and let fluid bleed out push pipe back in repeat until pedal is normal.

How to replace a clutch cable on a astra?

Firstly measure the thread length that remains at the end of the cable (it is after the arm that holds the cable in place within the engine compartment. Then lift your clutch pedal up and you should find the cable can be lifted from its bed and then you can un-clip it from the arm. It will now be free. If you can fit, position yourself under the pedals and release the spring from the clutch pedal that is holding the other end of the clutch cable in place. Then the rest of the cable should also be free. If you are too big to do this you can remove the clutch pedal or try to remove some of the lower trim. Next you should check to see if the cable has been fixed to any other bits with cable-ties then cut them free. Then carefully pull the whole unit and the plug like grommit from the bulkhead. it might be stiff so wiggle it out carefully. Then check your replacement cable is the same and repeat but in reverse. It might be tricky getting the spring and cable back on the clutch pedal so again, you might want to remove the pedal if your hands won't fit! Finally ensure the thread at the end of the new cable extends the same amount as the old one to ensure correct tension on the cable. You will need to take the tension off the cable (like you did to start with) before you fit the rest of it back under the bonnet. Hope this helps - If you get really stuck buy a manual. They have step by step instructions and pictures specific to the make and model you have.

How can you repair your clutch on your 1996 ford ranger the clutch came completely off the bracket?

I assume you mean the pedal came off. Did it break or did the retainer clip that holds the pedal on the shaft come off? It may just be a case of putting it back together and maybe a new C clip or cotter pin.
