Don't fix them, replace them. Its an easy job, see related link.
Try the trunk release on/off button located in the glove box. If this button is in the off position then the trunk release button will not work.
Something is wrong with my 1991 Toyota Corolla Dx's trunk latch. It will not let me close the lid shut and it stay shut. It will not stay latched. There is nothing no obstruction. Can you help me? Thanks

Check the release fuse first. Then check the relay, and the switch. If these are all ok, then check the solenoid at the release inside of the trunk.
You may simply need to clean the MAF Sensor. Simple fix.
Most likely there is a short in the wiring. This is a somewhat common problem with the Toyota echo, what happens is cargo in the trunk bumps the back of the rear speaker, causing a wire to come lose or break off, which can cause a short and you lose sound completely. Take a good close look at the wires to the speakers in the trunk. If you don't care about sound coming from the rear speakers and you don't want to fix it, you can just cut damaged wiring and tape it off, this will restore sound to the front speakers.
check in the trunk as the wires are exposed and luggage can very easily shift them so that they short out. This happened to my nephew who as a 2000 ECHO
you have to go to a mechanic and they will fix it te hook might have been dented and will not come out of the latch
The following link has instructions, diagrams and pictures showing how to make this repair easily and inexpensively: http://www.findonefindall.com/toyota-sienna/siennareardoor.htm
Read your manual. There is a switch in the glove box to disable the trunk release button on the dash. you lock the glove box with the regular key. When you give someone the valet key they can not get in the trunk.
