I was having the same problem. I also bought a short shifter to put on it and I figured I would find out the problem when I put that on. So while installing that I removed the bolt in the linkage to free up the shifter and there are two plastic bushings gearshift linkage that is worn out 1 was actually missing and the other was just hangin by a thresd so yours might be gone totally. It was like $15 for both bushings at the dealer only kinda pricy but it fixed the problem and pretty easy to install bout a half hour if you know what your doing. Also i would recomend a short shifter!
