Most are controlled via the output from the alternator - You will need to check all connections on the alternator first. If there is no suspect.damages/loose connections then its likely the console/display will need replacement due to wear.

was told there's a rev counter "unit" somewhere, Haine's manual has nothing, let us know if you sorted it? == Believe rev counter engine speed pickup is from the alternator. Had Rover 218TD with same engine, alternator went and rev counter stopped working. There were 3 wires to alternator, big thick red one, alternator light one and the rev counter feed. ON TOP OF THE GEARBOX BELLHOUSING THERE IS A SENSOR (EASY TO SPOT,COUPLE OF WIRES COMING OUT OF IT),IT READS THE ROTATIONS OF THE FLYWHEEL, GIVE IT A PUSH DOWN THEN PULL IT UPWARDS A TINY BIT.I EXPECT IT WIGGLED ITS WAY OUT OF POSITION.THAT'LL DO THE TRICK ;)
